LASH EXTENSIONS FAQS
Q: What are lash extensions?
A: Lash extensions come in different forms. The ones we use at Ana Coholan Esthetics are synthetic, which are made of faux mink
Q: How do you apply them?
A: For Classics, we apply one faux lash extension to one of your natural eyelashes. We use a high quality adhesive designed solely for lash extensions to adhere them to your natural eyelash.
For Hybrid, we mix a combination of classic lash technique, aka 1:1 application, and light volume fans of 2D-5D.
For Volume and Mega Volume, we apply 6D-8D & 10D-16D.
Q: Do you have to have special training to do lash extensions?
A: Yes, in the state of California you must be a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist in order to become certified in eyelash extensions. Once you can verify you are licensed in either field, you can then enroll into a accredited program to become certified in both classic and volume eyelash extension techniques.
Q: How long do they last?
A: How long they will last depends on the individuals natural lash cycle as well as day to day activities. They usually last about 4-6 weeks with no fills depending on your lifestyle and lash cycle. They will gradually fall shed off along with your natural lash cycle. However, with proper aftercare and regular fills every 2-3 weeks.
Q: Why do I need fills?
A: The average person looses 2-6 natural lashes a day, as part of their natural lash cycle. Lash cycles are usually every 21-90 days depending on the individual lash growth patterns. For example, if you were to lose 3 lashes a day, that's 42 lashes in 2 weeks and 63 lashes in 3 weeks, this is why it is highly recommended that you schedule a fill every 2-3 weeks in order to keep your lashes looking full, healthy, and beautiful.
Q: How often do I need to come in for a fill?
A: We recommend every 2-3 weeks. You and the lash artist can determine how long you can go in between fills during your lash appointment. Everyone is different, depending on lash growth pattern and other factors that can effect how long your lashes hold. For example; lifestyle, healthy, medication, activities, contacts, allergies, sleeping patterns, etc....
Q: What if I am pregnant, can I still get lash extensions?
A: This is a tricky question. If you are already a client of ours, and already have or have had lashes on, you should be fine. However, we recommend that you always have it cleared through your physician first. The biggest concern with getting lash extension put on while pregnant is any allergic reaction you can develop to the products being used, such as for example; the adhesive. In most cases, if you are already wearing them, you are most likely good to go, though allergies can arise at any time. If you have never worn lashes, nor have had them on since becoming pregnant, and would like to try lash extensions, a patch test and consultation is required.
Q: What if I am allergic to them?
A: All new clients must do a patch test. If already had a patch test and were fine, and all of a sudden you have developed an allergy or reaction to the products. We recommend contacting your physician. Then contacting us to remove them. An allergic reaction is very rare, however, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Q: How do I remove them?
A: You must book a "Lash Removal" service. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THEM YOURSELF. You can cause injury to your natural lashes.
Q: Can I still swim with lash extensions?
A: Yes. As long as you wait the required 24 hour period after a full set or a fill to get your lashes wet.
Q: Can I bring a guest with me to my appointment?
A: No. I know it might sound like a fun idea to bring a friend or family member. But it all honesty, it's disruptive and distracting to the lash artist. We want to give you the most of our time, and attention, and let you just relax while we work our magic.
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: No. Anyone who is not receiving a service is a distraction to the lash artist. Keep in mind, we are working with tweezers on a very delicate area (your eyes) and you must remain as still as possible. Any movement, including talking, can move our tweezers and could cause the lashes to not go on properly or possibly cause injury to eye.
Q: Is there anything I need to do prior to my appointment?
A: Yes. Please make sure to come in with clean, makeup free lashes, and absolutely no oil based products around the eye area. This is includes makeup and sunscreen. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes if you are getting a full set, as you will be laying down for about 2-3 hours. Try to have a snack prior (optional) but no caffeine, it can make eyes jittery. Try to use the restroom prior to appointment as well.
Q: Is there anything I have to do to take care of my lash extensions?
A: Yes, check out our "Aftercare Instructions". The lash artist will also go over them with you in detail during your first appointment.
